3D Printer Service

Creality 3-d printerCreality Ender-5 S1

As a pilot project, the Library now offers a basic 3D printing service for members of the MSVU community.

The Library will prioritize printing requests from students who are enrolled in EDUC 5350 (Technology in Education) and other MSVU students with course-related printing requests. Printing requests from the broader MSVU community will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

To request 3D printing, email circdesk@msvu.ca and share all STL printing files. You will be notified by email when your job is ready to be collected.

  • Printing is free of charge for the MSVU community
  • Orange or yellow filament available
  • Sorry, no jobs over 10 hours due to staffing constraints.

3D Printing Policy (Pilot Project)

Purpose

MSVU Library & Archives provides mediated access to 3D printing to support learning, teaching, and research. This service is intended for academic, creative, and prototyping purposes by current students, faculty, and staff.

Procedure

  1. Users should share the STL files via OneDrive to circdesk@msvu.ca (e.g. downloaded files from Thingiverse).
  2. Please specify the print size, any preferred material colour(s), and if the print job is for an educational purpose
  3. Users would be notified to collect the print jobs by email.
  4. The turnaround time will vary based on demand and staffing.
  5. Length of print job must be under 10 hours.

Printing Guidelines

  • Print jobs are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to students enrolled in EDUC 5350 Technology in Education, and/or students with a course-related project.
  • Only orange or yellow PLA filaments are available.
  • Maximum print time and size limits may apply depending on demand.
  • Users must submit their 3D design files in approved formats (e.g., STL).
  • Users are responsible for ensuring their file is print-ready.
  • No printing for commercial purposes.
  • Files must comply with all applicable laws and university policies, including copyright and intellectual property rights.
  • Items must not be used to create weapons, illegal materials, or items in violation of the university’s code of conduct.
  • The Library reserves the right to refuse any print request deemed inappropriate or unsafe.

Fee

As this is a pilot project, print jobs for eligible users will be provided at no charge.

User Responsibilities

  • Users must pick up completed items within 7 days. Unclaimed items may be recycled or discarded.
  • Users are required to remove any supporting materials (of overhanging parts) by themselves.

Disclaimer

The Library does not guarantee the quality or success of any print, and reserves the right to decline user submissions for any reason. Staff assistance is available, but the Library is not responsible for design errors or failed prints.
