Library Policies

Maintaining a Scholarly Environment

Policies and expectations will vary across various library spaces. MSVU Library & Archives’ employees will wear identification and/or identify themselves verbally when asking that users comply with library and university policies. If users do not comply with an initial request or if they violate a policy repeatedly, library employees may take additional measures.

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • asking to see a photo ID and recording information from the ID card;
  • issuing a verbal or written warning;
  • requesting assistance from university security and, if necessary, asking the user to leave library spaces;
  • reporting problems to the appropriate university office or official (e.g. the Associate Vice President of Student Experience; see MSVU’s Non-Academic Discipline Policy).

In all cases, library employees will be respectful of the rights of all users in working to maintain a scholarly environment. Users who engage in serious violations may:

  • lose the privilege of using the MSVU Library & Archives;
  • be subject to university-imposed discipline;
  • be charged for damage to materials or equipment;
  • be subject to a Protection of Privacy Order, arrest, and/or criminal prosecution.

The MSVU Library & Archives adheres to all relevant and applicable Mount Saint Vincent University policies, including those below.
