Different types of generative AI tools have different functions, like creating text, images, audio, and more. Some generative AI tools can perform multiple functions, such as creating text and images.
While some of these tools are free, many require you to pay to use them or to access premium features. Some tools allow you to create a basic account for free or use the tool with a short-term free trial.
Text Generators
Text generators create new text that resembles the data they were trained on. These generators consume large amounts of web data and use probability to predict patterns and relationships in language.
Examples of AI text generators include: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity AI, and Microsoft Copilot.
Image Generators
Image generators are trained on datasets of images with accompanying text descriptions. When image generators "learn" what different concepts are, such as a dog and a roller coaster, these generators can combine these concepts when prompted to create an image of a dog on a roller coaster.
Examples of AI image generators include: DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Adobe Firefly.
Audio and Music Generators
Audio and music generators are trained to identify patterns in different types of audio, such as different genres of music, and some of these generators are also trained on song lyrics.
Examples of audio and music generators include: AIVA and Soundful.
Video Generators
Video generators sometimes use existing videos to "learn" how to create new ones, or they are trained on audio, visual, and text elements and then combine these elements to create new videos. Some video generators are also trained to use video editing software and can add captions, transitions, animations, and other effects to videos when prompted.
Examples of video generators include: Runway Gen-1 and Invideo.
